The Kite Runner soared to the top of bestseller lists once it was released in paperback in 2003. It gained even more popularity with book clubs and the like. It went on to claim a spot on the prestigious New York Times bestseller list for more than two years, ultimately reaching a staggering seven million copies sold in the United States alone. Notably, reviews were predominantly favorable, highlighting its widespread appeal. Following its publication, a variety of adaptations were born, including a 2007 film bearing the same title.

A theatrical production of The Kite Runner first graced the stage at the San Jose Repertory Theater in 2009. Its compelling story found a new home across the Atlantic in 2013 when Nottingham Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse presented an enchanting UK production. It resurfaced once more on London’s West End in 2017, earning acclaim during its brief appearances at Wyndham’s Theatre and the Playhouse Theatre. Anticipation mounted when this beloved production made its Broadway debut with a highly-praised, albeit brief, run at the Hayes Theater in the summer of 2022.

Following the success of the Broadway production, the producers proudly announced a North American Tour to captivate audiences across the continent. If you have not had a chance to catch one of its shows on Broadway in 2022, you finally get the opportunity to do so. This exciting production is a must-see for both lovers of the book and theatre fans.

If you have read the book, then you know that this emotionally captivating tale is one of the best that has ever been written. An honest review from Publishers Weekly said, “It’s simply an excellent story. Much of it is based in a world we don’t know, a world we’re barely beginning to know. Well-written, published at the ‘right time’ by an author who is both charming and thoughtful in his personal appearances for the book.” Meanwhile, The Observer commented, “The Kite Runner is the shattering first novel by Khaled Hosseini” that “is simultaneously devastating and inspiring.”
