History can be captivating when you watch it with the beloved Broadway musical, "Six — The Musical." You don’t have to be a history expert to enjoy "Six — The Musical," though. Its message of girl power, brought home through powerful music, makes attending this show an heart-pounding occasion.
The original Broadway musical production of "Six — The Musical" won 2 Tony awards, including for Best Score. After making its premiere on London's West End and moved to Broadway, you now have the ability to watch "Six — The Musical" in Chicago, Illinois. The touring production of "Six — The Musical" will bring the epic score to CIBC Theatre on Tuesday 2nd December 2025.
"Six" started as a theater production by the Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society in 2017 in the United Kingdom. The positive reviews of those performances resulted in a professional production that traveled across the United Kingdom in 2018.
"Six — The Musical" made its official opening on London’s West End in 2019. It had a acclaimed run until Covid lockdowns disrupted theater for most of the following year.
But still, the musical has continued to grow in popularity and was part of tours around the world. It eventually moved to New York City, where it was the first new musical to appear on Broadway after the COVID pandemic.
It continues to tour across North America and the world today. An fascinating twist to the creation of "Six" was that Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss used actual musical icons to model the characters. They took inspiration from musicians like Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Celine Dion, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Alicia Keys for the character development.

"Six" is the story of the lives of the wives of King Henry the 8th, who was a controversial king of England in the 1500s. During his nearly 4 decades of rule, he married six times. His demands to annul his first marriage led to the separation of the Church of England from papal authority. Many people probably are familiar with the story of Henry VIII. However, you may not know the story of his many wives. That’s where "Six" picks up.
The musical focuses on the story of these six queens as they sing about their difficult experiences with Henry VIII. The queens compete for who had the worst experience in being married to the king. The queens discuss divorce, rejections, infidelity, and even beheadings in a way that makes you laugh while also touching your heart. There is a contemporary twist on the story by incorporating a dating app in a hilarious way.
Eventually, they realize that fighting over who had the most awful time with Henry VIII is pointless. They come to realize that Henry VIII denied their individuality. They’re not just the six wives of Henry VIII - they have their personal strengths that deserve celebrating. The Six eventually help each other to write new endings to their lives. They achieve their “happily ever afters” that Henry VIII denied them by imagining what their lives would’ve been like without marrying Henry VIII.
