This March, Hamilton will be playing in CIBC Theatre, the highly praised entertainment venue of Chicago and the No.1 possible venue for this spectacular show. The acclaimed and award-winning show continues to tell its astounding tale from place to place all over the Country.

Debuting off Broadway in 2015, Hamilton was not instantly the Broadway success that you will see today. Lin-Manuel Miranda has talked candidly about its beginnings, starting as a concept album in 2009, with Miranda saying that he was “thrilled that the White House called me tonight, because I’m actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop: treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.” That one single performance resulted in praise and a well-earned standing ovation from his crowd at the time, as well as former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and ultimately led to Miranda’s production of the Hamilton musical we know today.

With his background in musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also found inspiration from other popular theater pieces such as Les Misérables, which is based on a similar theme that tells the history of a struggle, and triumphing that struggle, as opposed to the usual musical theatre biases that tend to be very uplifting and happy. Similarly Hamilton, being about the difficulties arising as an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean who rose to power and became the first American Treasury Secretary. With the utmost respect to its source material, the production shows us both sides of Alexander Hamilton’s rise to power, by not only showing us a peek into his character and struggle, but also his influence and lasting legacy in being able to powerfully shape North America over that time.

By telling this story, the Musical continues to display its relevance in popular culture and even international public discourse, confronting questions and topics that are highly relevant not only to America, but also around the world. Even the use of musical genres like hip hop, jazz, and R&B as the productions score has solidified its place in pop culture, making it one of the most exciting hit Chicago musicals today.
