Inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. Hamilton covers Hamilton’s career as an American Founding Father and his active role in the American Revolution and the political history of early U.S.A.. Through to Hamilton's untimely demise to Vice President Aaron Burr in a duel.

After debuting in 2015, the production went on to take home 8 Drama Desk Awards, 11 Tony Awards from 18 nominations, and the Pulitzer Prize in 2016.

Miranda and the cast of Hamilton aim to recount the story of "America then, as told by America now." To do so, the show places ethnic minority actors as the American Founding Fathers and other major roles.
