Hamilton at CIBC Theatre

Show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off his success from his recent Broadway play, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a number of years before it opened in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this opening that Miranda also played the title role. The entire show, including its talented cast and unbelievable score received highly positive praise from both critics and the audiences alike.

Hamilton, as most know, is a historical tale that centers on one of the Countries Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a contemporary and modern approach, as seen in the music styles chosen and especially in its multicultural cast. Plus, the 70th Tony Awards, where the production took home 11 out of 16 nominations, is a testament to its success. Hamilton’s initial cast included the actors and actresses, Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both notable nominees and awardees, but their varied and strong performances taken collectively brought Hamilton to a completely new level. The production team, just as equally talented, earned Tony Awards for the Musical. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course the man himself Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all topped the 2016 Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, Hamilton also took home Best Musical for the year. The current cast and production crew in each new entertainment venue where Hamilton is performed brings the same grit and inspiration in their shows, with overwhelming positive reviews posted consistently.

Hamilton’s global rise to fame led to opening many doors worldwide for the fans to experience Hamilton. It has continued for the past 10 years to perform not just in the U.S.A., but also over in the UK's West End and in various venues across Asia. Hamilton’s touring production will be heading to Chicago throughout March (and on Wednesday 18th March 2026) at CIBC Theatre, performing at one more world-class stage with the finest facilities and sound engineering that could surpass even Broadway and West End theaters.
