Hamilton at CIBC Theatre

Debuting in 2015 and performing for almost a decade, Hamilton shook Broadway by storm bringing a innovative approach. Based on Ron Chernow’s biographical book about Alexander Hamilton, it tells the life story of Alexander Hamilton’s humble beginnings and rise to one of the Founding Fathers of Northern America. This is a profound story that is both founded in truth and clever, Hamilton is still to this day lauded as fearless in its storytelling and has left its mark on politics, culture, and education.

Written by American composer and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, famous for his achievements in both Broadway and film, also creating the score and lyrics for previous Broadway play called "In the Heights", another Tony award-winning production. Miranda is also responsible for the music and lyrics in several notable musical movies such as Moana. The hit musical, featuring a mixed cast, is set to a score that combines new genres like hip-hop, jazz, R&B, which has made Hamilton all the more innovative and exciting by bringing these music genres to the stage. Showtunes such as “Satisfied”, “Wait For It”, and “You’ll Be Back”, have become loved by many as top-rated memorable songs from the production since its Broadway release. Lin-Manuel Miranda has attributed his music inspiration for Hamilton came from top rap and hip-hop rappers of America, finding a way to unite the different genres together, something that was unheard of! The score of Hamilton are praised hugely by Illinois critics alike, compared to the other Broadway shows produced today, Hamilton proves to be more fast-paced and fun than many.

Hamilton has garnered a record-breaking 11 Tony Awards plus 16 Tony nominations, Grammy Awards, Olivier Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and even a special mention from the Kennedy Center Honors. To date, Hamilton has achieved success all over the world as it continues its limited runs all over the world, including the continents of Europe and Asia.
