If there has ever been a massively successful revival of a musical on Broadway, let it be the 2023 staging of Alfred Uhry’s riveting ‘Parade’.
‘Parade’ left an immense impression on all theatregoers - lovers, professionals, critics, and laymen alike, and with its harrowing tale of conviction, understanding, devotion, and love in a world of discord, trumped-up stories, and injustice, it drove a paramount message home. With heartfelt performances by a world-renowned cast, striking visuals, Jason Robert Brown’s incredible score, ‘Parade’ received two Tony Awards, six Drama Desk Awards, and a New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Musical.
‘Parade’ is a dramatization of the 1913 trial, conviction and eventual lynching of Jewish-American factory worker Leo Frank for the murder of a 13-year old girl, as a result of a flawed trial, media sensationalism and misinformation. With a flawed trial and media coverage fuelled by antisemitism and a rather violent outcome, ‘Parade’ rings as true now as it did a century ago when Leo Frank was captured. Even though ‘Parade’s tale has an incredible depth, boasts emotional performances, and is poignant, is it also gloriously hopeful, gorgeous, and filled with magnificent flourishes.
‘Parade’ is a wonderful musical that will move you like you’ve never been moved before, the music is a masterful blend of folk, rock, R&B and gospel genres, the production is visually striking, and the tale is gripping - one of the biggest must-sees in theatres today.
And now, nearly thirty years after its Broadway debut and two years after its highly successful revival, the parade is finally marching down to your neck of the woods! It’s not every day that a musical with such a great track record takes a local stage, so you should grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with both hands!
The CIBC Theatre is especially known for its luxurious seating across various levels, state-of-the-art sound and lighting, superb acoustics, and fantastic amenities. All-in-all, it will be a night that you’ll talk about for years to come!
Get your tickets now, and experience ‘Parade’ for yourself - it will stick with you long after the curtains have fallen and the theatre lights have dimmed.
