The Six story

"Six" is the story of the wives of King Henry VIII, who was an infamous king of England in the early 1500s. During his nearly four decades as king, he married 6 times. His efforts to annul his first marriage led to the separation of the Church of England from papal authority. Many people probably are familiar with the story of Henry VIII. However, you may not know the story of his six wives.

The musical delves into the story of the six queens as they sing about their difficult experiences with the king. The queens try to decide who had the roughest experience in living with the king. The queens discuss divorce, rejections, adultery, and even beheadings in a way that makes you laugh while also touching your emotions. There is a relatable twist on the story by incorporating a dating app through a parody.

Eventually, they realize that battling over who had the worst experience with Henry VIII is pointless. They come to realize that Henry VIII denied their individuality. They’re not just the six wives of a terrible king - they have their own strengths that deserve celebrating. The ex-wives eventually come together to write new endings to their stories. They achieve their “happily ever afters” that Henry VIII denied them by imagining what their lives would’ve been like without seeing Henry VIII.
