Applauded as one of the longest-running Broadway shows of all time, The Book of Mormon has been a box office success all over the world. In its tour over a number of cities in the United States, London’s West End, and Australia among others, the Broadway hit has been met with an astounding reception from viewers and sold-out shows. In Chicago, it is expected to be no different as the performance on Saturday 18th October 2025 will be running in CIBC Theatre, with a reputation of running the greatest plays and musicals, and loved by many because of its spacious interior and beautiful stage.
The Book of Mormon is a musical comedy about religious teachings and stories, specifically Mormon missionaries named Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they are entrusted to teach their religion’s faith and teachings to a small local village in Uganda. They discover however, the locals are indifferent to their preaching, as they are fighting against more dangerous issues. The pair then each use their own way to convert the locals, with Cunnigham’s often involving adding fiction and fantasy to his teachings.
In more than ten years running, The Book of Mormon has accumulated several awards in both Broadway and West End. Let's not forget the nine Tony Awards out of fourteen total nominations, including for Best Musical (received right after its opening night in 2011), four Drama Desk Awards, and three Outer Circle Critics awards. In the West End production of the show which debuted in 2013 at the Prince of Wales theatre, it won four Laurence Olivier Awards again including for Best Musical. Then from the other side of the world, from the Australian tour in 2017, it also won two Helpmann Awards that also included for Best Musical.
Monetarily, The Book of Mormon has also achieved epic monetary success with more than 4,600 performances as of the end of alst year. It has earned over $1 billion dollars worldwide, and was even supported by the church through purchases of ad space, billboards, bus advertising space, and other marketing campaigns in the several destinations in which the show performed in.
